Chiang Mai Festivals

Songkran
The festival that celebrates the Thai lunar New Year during the period 13 - 15 April is where everyone throws water around and you get wet. The 13th of April is the Great Songkran day featuring the revered Phra Phutthasihing Buddha image parade around Chiang Mai town.

Loy Krathong
Normally held in November when there is full moon on the 12th lunar month. The festival is celebrated by making candle lit floats and placing on the river or in water. Fireworks are also let off at the same time. Lanterns decorate streets and hand made hot air balloons are sent up into the sky. Beauty contests and parades of tradtional costumes complete the atmosphere of Loy Krathong.

H.M. The King's Birthday Celebration
Thai's have great respect for His Majesty and on the 5th December lights and decorations are found all around.

H.M The Queen's Birthday Celebration
On August 12 many lights celebrate the Queen's Birthday. Visakha Bucha Day Worshippers gather to light candles and make the 7-kilometre pilgrimage up to the temple on Doi Suthep.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival
Februrary is normally the tijme of the Chiang Mai flower festival when flower displays appera all over Chiangmai. The cnetral point is Buak Had Park at the south west corner of the moat.
